::Opening an empty image::
To open up an empty sheet you either go to file and then new.

Or you press ctrl + N or you simply press the image that looks like this...

When you do this you will get this box will pop up...

Image dimensions are rather easy to get width is simply the width of the
new image and height is the hight.
In units you can chose how you want to set the size either in pixels
(which is what
personally prefer to use) centimeters and inches.
The characteristics are rather clear too.
Raster layer is simply just a usual layer that is based on pixels,
so if u resize a raster layer picture it will make the pixels bigger and make the image look blurry.
Vector layer is a layer where you can resize your image up and down
and it wont have any effect on the quality it will only make more pixels.
When I open up a new image I tend to always make have the raster layer checked.
Colour depth is just what it says. How many colours you will allow in your picture.
Most plugins require you to have the colour depth on 24 bit.
Although you can change this as you proceed with your work.
The colour is just wether you want to have a set background colour or not.
the easiest thing is to keep it transparent.
Now that we opened a new image we can move on to the good stuff ;)
